Hi. For about the last three weeks or so I have been getting dizzy spells. They seem to occur for no apparent reason at any time during the day and sometimes when I am awake lying in bed. They don't actually cause me to fall over but I feel they could should they get worse. To help you good people to give me some advice here are some statistics. I am male 77 yrs old a bit overweight. I wear glasses, I like a good drink, I try to eat "healthy foods" but find it difficult because I like my steak and chips occasionally. I was diagnosed with angina years ago but have no problems apart from a little breathlesness climbing stairs or humping furniture about ( decorating). My medication consists of amlodipine tablets 10mg, Atenolol tablets 100mg daily,I don't take statins and I believe my last cholesterol check was 6. I realise I should probably go and see my GP but I thought. I would submit my problem to you nice people beforehand. Hope to hear from you soon.SOG.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Aged 77yrs, male, overweight, being treated for hypertension (high BP)..attacks of "unsteadiness".........the first thing that comes to mind is that both amlodopine and atenelol are for lowering your BP and one wonders if it is being lowered too much.......so a BP check is the first port of call.
These attacks that you describe do not have any of the characteristics of vertigo, so that rules out many other conditions.
Your problem does seem to involve your cardiovascular system one way or another and a visit to your doctor would be the obvious next move.

Squad. Thank you very much for your very prompt reply. To update you I was humping sacks of rubble into a skip yesterday and apart from some breathlesness the dizziness didn't occur then but it did later in the day when I was relaxed. I check my own BP fairly regularly but it fluctuates from fairly low 120/50 to normal/high 140/70. I know these figures can be highly innacurate on these highstreet bought machines and on your advice I WILL make an appointment to see my GP whenever she/he is available. Once again many thanks
Squad. Once again thanks for your help. Something I forgot to mention. For the last three months or so I have been taking store bought multi vitamin supplements for " the over fifties". I'm trying to think of any changes in my lifestyle which may have caused these spells and that is the only significant thing to date. What do you think?
