Hi, I am a fairly healthy 32 year old male and have been prescribed glasses. My results were:

RE: Sph = Plano, Cyl +1.25, Axis 90, VA 6/6
LE: Sph = +0.25, Cyl -0.50, Axis 80, VA 6/6

So from this, I gather I have an astigmatsim in both eyes, more so in my right (moderate) than my left. Yet what has confused me is my right eye vision ('Sphere'?) is normal, so I'm confused as the glasses I have bene prescribed are supposed to help my astigmatism?

My other concern is that the optician has referred me to go and see mt Doctor for blook tests as there are 'bilateral retinal puigmentation, not seen before'. What does this mean? I have obvuiously Googled it and the results were not too heartening (leaukemia, diabetes etc.).

well dont read the prescription if it worries you, you silly boy !

RE is normal but also had a 1.25 dioptre cylindrical at one axis ( and 0D at right angles to it.

so basically your correction is 1.25 + at one axis and zero on the other.
oh dear it went plonk....

second para, my cousin has this - think large freckle.
You would go to an ophthalmology clinic where they dilate the pupil and photograph it in a dark room and perhaps even show you.

very common....after a few goes they will discharge you so long as it doesnt change shape and grow....

by and large your vision is very nearly normal
I wouldn't worry about it - you are in the system for some blood checks, just to make sure that everything is OK. Your optician is doing what he should be doing.
I cannot comment with authority on your glasses prescription.

I can comment upon your pigmented retina.
Do not Google this condition before it is diagnosed as it could well be very misleading and worrying for you. i can see that it is extremely unusual for retinal pigmentation to be due to systemic disease i.e leukemia etc

Try not to have pessimistic thoughts and wait for the conclusion of your Ophthalmologist.

Thanks both! I know, I know, I was just intrigued what the figures meant, it's actually quite interesting. I just know if I put my hand on ly left eye, my vision out of my right is pretty blurred...yet the sheet seems to indicate I will have a 'blank' lens as the Right Eye is 'Plano', so I got confused! Obviously my right eye has 'more of an astigmatism'; moderate accrdoing to another site, so why the 'blank lens'?

As for the 'hypopigmentation spots visible on fundus photography', I understand it could be a freckle but there are 6-8 in each eye?

Maybe the technology these days is too much and reveals things we shouldn't worry about I suppose!

Thanks; I'm only worrying a little, but I'm quite rational! It is just because the optician seemed to not think it was a common thing. Ah well, blood tests at the Doctor's tomorrow, was just wondering if anybody knew more or had any experience of it, that was all...
according to another site, so why the 'blank lens'?

it is only blank on one axis - the other axis at right angles it is 1.25 D.

and as for the pigmentation - you would be very worried as my cousin was - but dont be. or try not to be....

Funnily enough I am seeing my GP tomorrow 08 40 as I think I have a cataract, and I had to persuade myself it wasnt all sorts of nasty uncommon things ( specifically retinitis....). It will be OK for both of us

Fingers crossed, for both of us! Thanks again.
