There are some addictions worst than others. Smoking or heavy drinking would probably take years off your life but if you opened a packet of Capstan Full Strength you don't think you're going to drop dead after the first drag. Similarly, if you went into a pub in the morning for the cure you'd hope to walk out rather then be carried out in a body bag.
You are comparing substances (liquor and tobacco) that are legally produced by known companies for human consumption and are subject to rigorous legislation. There are plenty of examples of multiple deaths caused by consuming illicitly produced liquor (example: http:// en.wiki pedia.o rg/wiki /1992_O disha_l iquor_d eaths). When these drugs are produced without control anything can be added. The producer only has its income in mind. it wouldn't be a surprise that sudden deaths start occurring from illegally made tobacco products too.
