Dental Implants

Now my next question.
Anybody out there have got dental implants and have they been a success.
I have mentioned I am due 7 extractions 3 at the back of the mouth and 4 at front of mouth.
Will be having dental implants along with other treatment eg bone strengthening etc. Am very very nervous. I know I am down the line but was wondering should I also think of top and bottom completely out with falsies. Also it is very very expensive.
The second scenario is that if I accept the implants - I will be still seeing dentist from time to time re the rest of my natural teeth so is it worth all that and more. Thanks for any replies.

In her surgey were Americans, Hawaiians, Europeans obviously the locals could not afford her, her surgery was very modern you could even watch what she was doing on a overhead tv screen - no thanks not for me !
I had lots of bone strengthening more than normal amount and was in her operating theatre twice so knocked out. The third time they gave me valium. My teeth are good and they make me look younger, yes I still go to my normal UK dentist for a twice yearly check on the implants and the rest, my UK dentist was so impressed he contacted her to find out which system she used a German system apparently. Did it hurt ? a bit but not as much as I thought it would and the end result cancels out any discomfort, they took all my top teeth out and I have three at the bottom. Go for it. I have not gone back to have the front bottom teeth done because sadly my husband died but my bottom ones are okay. Did I tell you I was 70 the day all the work was completed and the whole surgery came to dinner at our hotel !we came back to UK next day. I am an English lady but my late hubby was Goan/Portuguese so all the chat I insisted was done in Hindi because I was so scared I did not want to hear what would happen in case I got up and ran away ! I am really happy with them, go for it.

forgot,to add I had to wear a complete set of upper dentures for three months between first visit and second, it was absolutely disgusting taking them out every night and scraping off the denturefix stuff from the roof of your mouth, and loosing them ! I could not eat with them in either I could not have put up with all that for eternity that's for sure.

Just read end of your second post -- I have a lisp anyway due to hearing diffs - but funnily enough dentist did say that my lisp was getting worse due to faulty crowns etc.
I did meander to myself - why I couldn't say certain words but put it down to old age now hopefully -= lisp will correct itself. Goodnight Dee Sa.

you can travel to get considerably cheaper implants - Malta, Hungary etc - and they have good reputations. But you need more than one visit: usually one for a consultation, one for implant, one for the crown to go on the implant, one for a checkup. Might be more if you need bone grafts (they take months to settle down). Those would all be included in the implant cost but consider whether the extra costs of flights and hotels would make it cheaper to get it done at home.
I have got two reservations about going abroad to have the work done. The first is that I would want to know a dentist very well before I agreed that they could undertake the work and the second, from personal experience of what happens when thing go wrong, is that I would want to be able to have access to the dentist for the whole of the process and afterwards which would mean taking up residence in the country of choice for however many months it took.
Janbee are you sure that's per tooth or per implant? A run of adjacent teeth can be placed like a bridge and does not need one implant per tooth.

Jennyjoan. You may remember my post to you when I was complaining about my treatment at the dentist. You said to clean my teeth gently but often which I did. I was unhappy with my dentists sudden diagnosis of periodontal disease and the investigation cost which was not covered by my Denplan scheme! I continued taking extra care with my gums and teeth and then booked into a another practice for a second opinion. I was told that I did NOT have the gum disease and did NOT need to have four teeth extracted. The dentist took Xrays and wrote me a plan for future treatment and although the cost will no doubt bankrupt me it is possible to get some decent teeth out of all this and with a dentist that I feel I have faith in. Good luck with your treatment and thanks once again for your advice.
Hi Cheatgal - thanks for your post - I know I genuinely have pyrrhoea etc as my teeth are actually moving - you can see them and feel them. I now have a split in my two front teeth that are actually crowns and I am also in pain with them so definitely all is not good. I am going tomorrow morning to get I think 4 teeth extracted - also deep cleaning of tartar which is painful to me. I am getting IV sedation which will help but know I will be in pain afterwards. I too will be bankrupt after she has been paid. Will let you know how I get on.
Just a wee update - just back from dentists where had I 4 extracts - she found it difficult to get a vein in my arm but got a little in - but went on to give me gas and air and loads of numbing.
4 extracts.
deep deep cleaning and polishing
1 temporary crown
and showed a very bad offending tooth that I asked her not to remove this morning as it wasn't paining me - however it was very bad with a beginning of an abscess. Know will be in a bit of pain tomorrow but up to date must say I am happy and trusted in this dentist - however much she was worth. Have to go back on 30 October for more treatment but have decided to get numbed. Hurray I am so glad I made it I truly am. JjCon
