12 Answers
My Doc told me today to inhale steam with a towel over my head (like the old days) to help with congestion, mucus and phlegm.
Whats best to add to it? Thanks.

Its brilliant because you get a constant supply of steam and it works! Used it again last month for a horrible cough and it saved a trip to the doc - cleared it in about 4 days - the more times a day you steam the faster your symptoms are alleviated. Didn't add anything smelly - just used the steam. Don't jam your face right in it though - hover about an inch away from the mask.
The cheapest and best way to inhale steam is, to fill a small basin ( 1pint) with boiling water you don't need to add anything to the water because the steam does the work anyway. Place your head over the bowl ( not too near the water though) and place a towel over your head and to cover the bowl. Inhale for about 15 mins several times a day but when you have finished after the 15 mins DO NOT GO OUT FOR AT LEAST HALF AN HOUR BECAUSE THE PORES WILL BE OPEN.. This method was given to my husband by an E.N.T specialist as a private patient and cost £5.00 Yes £5.00 :) I forgot to mention fifty years ago.
