I Don't Know If I Can
40 Answers
I have had a bad cold for a week or so, I tried to rest a lot over the week end, but am still bunged up, coughing and sneezing. The problem is Christmas Dinner.as every year, I will be cooking the whole works for 10 people, my son is going to help me this year ( 30 ) as he wants to learn how to do it, but even so, I don't know if I want to. I know I could pull myself together, give orders from the sofa, so to speak, but the thought of it exhausts me. I don't want to cancel and disappoint the family, especially as there are two tots, but as you all know it is a two day operation. What would you do? I think I will go to the dr. today as I am now getting out of breath too and hope I don't have bronchitis.

When I was working I always cooked Christmas dinner as a thank you for my wife running a house with two noisy active boys and always had a good meal for me whatever time I came home.
Now I am the house husband (retired) I cook all the family meals and will be cooking on Christmas Day. Just got the Turkey and Gammon out the freezer earlier.
Really hope you feel better on the day. Dr Retro advises hot toddys and delegation. xx

A cold is nothing. A mere sniffle. Now if you are talking Flu then that is different. Too many people throw a sickie with Flu when all they have is a runny nose. I am not suggesting Samuraisan is not feeling seriously unwell at the moment but I am sure it is not just a cold.
If you can read a book then cooking is easy. That's how I learnt before being saturated by TV cooking programmes. :-)

With you there Retro. I do all the cooking and have always done so. I lived the glorious life of a single man for 15 years from the age of 17. You soon get fed up of beans on toast. I will once more cook Christmas lunch, a ham, make a trifle, mince pies and home made stuffing. I have a nice flat screen tv with full sky package, my music centre wifi'd up to my laptop, with 'refreshments' to hand. I am ready to rumble. 'She who must be obeyed' can cook but is happy to leave me to it. Sometimes I give her a treat and let her do the washing up. At Christmas I use the foil roasting trays so no ruddy scrubbing up to do.
Just an update I case anybody wondered how I got on. My elder son was terrific and together we made a delicious Christmas Dinner and a jolly old time was had by all. I was so glad to see them all leave at 10.00 pm. though. I feel much better today, we shall spend the day cleaning and relaxing, maybe go out to the beach for lunch. Anyway, I hope you all had a lovely peaceful Christmas and I wish you all a happy healthy wealthy 2016
