Hi all. A colleague of mine has to have root canal treatment. We are based in Dublin and the quotes seem to be in the region of €750. Could you give me a rough idea of what the cost would be in the UK please?
Thanks!

A (very) rough estimate is E450 - but obviously it depends on the size of the tooth, the number of roots, time taken and so on.

It depends if your colleague things a saving of around E300 is worth the travel and so on.

Thanks Andy. I suppose the best bet may be to price it up in Northern Ireland.
From private health web site:
What is the cost of private treatment?
Due to the length and complexity of the treatment, root canal costs can work out quite expensive. Most private dentists start their root canal charges at around £360 per tooth, with the price rising on a sliding scale depending on the number of roots, the difficulty of the treatment, and the number of sessions required. You may also have to pay separately for x-rays, antibiotics, and other peripherals. If you require a cap or crown, this will further increase the cost. Most private root canal bills are in the range £360 to £475 per tooth.
No NHS in Ireland?

Is the NHS not limited to the UK?
Many countries have an NHS system of some description.
Ireland is in Europe so any treatment could be carried in UK under the NHS system? I may be wrong!

this is the list of dental charges under the NHS.

Thanks all. So if I was visiting the UK and needed urgent root canal work, would I be able to get it on the NHS or would it have to be private?, would there be a waiting list in the NHS? (I am a UK citizen, born and lived there for 30 years!, my colleague on the other hand is Mexican, resident in Ireland!)
As far as I'm aware you'd have to private. You can only get NHS dental work if you have an NHS number.
