Over the same period (1975-present) the population of the world has risen from 4 billion to 7.5 billion.

There does seem to be a correlation with wealth. The oil rich middle east and north Africa lead followed by the US, Russia then Europe.

There's also the south Pacific Islands of Samoa, Tonga, and Tukalu...a diet that's changed from native roots and fish to imported tinned junk from the west has caused obesity to go through the roof. In fact,it's a switch to Western food that's caused the obesity crisis in most countries.

What is surprising is that almost everywhere the women seem to be having the greater problem.
