My mum has hard compacted wax. Her appointment for syringing is Tue 11 dec
She’s not too keen on the drops so I’m going to stop them until next Saturday- will that be enough time? She has Alzheimer’s so I can’t reason with her about the drops

I don't think that is long enough for the drops to soften the hard wax. I have the same problem from time to time and it always takes a few weeks for the wax to soften enough to be removed by the syringing. The whole procedure is not pleasant so I have every sympathy with your Mum, but it will be worth it because she will feel so much better when the wax has all gone.
The nurse told my husband to put warm olive oil in his ears for two weeks before having his ears syringes. I hope it goes well for your mum, and you, but she will feel better afterwards.

Thank you for your answers
I’m not sure she’s going to let me do it for so long but I’ll give it a go
Yes, try to persuade your mum as the longer you can put in the drops the better. Warm olive oil or almond oil should do the trick. Good luck to both you and your mum.
No big deal.......4 days should be enough.
I read today that 25% of doctor surgeries no longer do irrigation (syringing). Not obligatory to ease patient problem apparently. Lucky to get treated.

Mrs B had an appointment to have her ears done the week before last.
I made it for her, asked for ears not ear. When we arrived the Gestapo type nurse said which ear is it? my response both. we don't do both anymore she said, how many days have you been putting drops in?
My response, we haven't. Can't do it at all then says she.
Why can't these people tell us what they want, I am not a mind reader.

The doctor said she was to have them done before they would arrange a home visit from audiologist- she had two aids which she lost! It’s the Alzheimer’s
I had to get one of mine cleared out before a hearing test, and the GP wouldn't do it. But I only needed the drops for 3-4 days. Unless your mum's really been hammering the wax into place, I would have thought that would be enough.
