Following on from my blood pressure medication post, has anybody been on bendroflumethiazide? I'm worried about needing to wee all the time, especially because I teach, and I really can't stop my class (choir) in the middle to go to the toilet! Also, my mobility is terrible, and I already have urgency.
I'm about to start 2.5 mg per day. any idea what sort of effect this might have?

How old are you, Scarlett?

Thank you. I saw something that said people over 65 shouldn't take that medicine. So, you're ok.

If you are worried, buy some Tena Ladies type pads just in case you get caught out.

See how you get on before worrying about what could happen.

My Mum was on that (can't remember the dose) alongside Ramipril.  She didn't have any problems with needing to go to the loo frequently.

My late father was on diuretics.  He said that he got over any problems of excess peeing simply by reprogramming his brain to add on 'go to the loo' to regular activities in his life.

So, for example, when leaving the house, instead of thinking "Have I got my keys?" he'd think "Have I got my keys and been to the loo?"

Similarly, if he was doing something where the programme said "Break for tea and biscuits", he'd train his mind to think "Break for tea, biscuits and the loo".

Although I've not been on diuretics, I've also had problems with the need to pee often (through prostate cancer) and I've generally found that, just like my father, going to the loo at every available opportunity (rather than waiting for the 'urge' to occur) is all that's really needed to stay in control of the problem.

Buen, that's interesting – but I think I do this anyway. I do tend to have little accidents (!) If I don't go when I need to. My bladder isn't as strong as it used to be and I think that's linked with menopause. Thanks for the advice, I will make sure I go Before I have to!

237sj that's reassuring, thank you. I was going to take my tablet very early in the morning, even before I'm up, so that it doesn't interfere with my sleep, fingers crossed.

My Mum was on it until she was 82.  Didn't cause her any problems

I have taken this medication for more than twenty years and it has posed no problems at all.  I take the pill first thing in the morning and don't feel any need to wee until late morning. In my experience it has never caused any urgency, I think it is as much a state of mind as anything.

I do every hour ( on Lasix) and it works quite well

night - 1 am and 3 am -

"Have I got my keys?" he'd think "Have I got my keys and been to the loo?"

other mums ask their daughter -clean pair of knickers ( reassurance ritual)

Peter, is that to lower your blood pressure, and does it work? If you have to wee every hour, that sounds like a lot to me?

Wrongtupelo- that's really good, I'm hoping to have the same result as you!
