My partners family have a condition called Porphyria in their genes. Can this affect his cognitive thought patterns, as sometimes he doesn't comprehend things like most people. Also he gets very aggressive and I wonder if it is related

We brushed on it at the university but I just googled most of the info. The thing is you havent said whether your partner was actually diagnosed. And his anger as well as concentration could be just the effects of stress and anxiety. I can see why he would be reluctant to see a doctor especially since it is such a difficult condition to diagnose especially if he never had an acute attack. I am sure he is aware of his temper and suffers its effects just like you do. Why not try and explain to him how much this anger hurts you and if it is a result of his anxiety maybe not knowing isnt such an easy option after all.
