The Coil
2 Answers
Hello, can any women that are using or have used the coil please answer a few questions for me... Is it easy to have one fitted? Is it comfortable, can you feel it, knowing it's there? Is it reliable? Are there any implications to having one? Would it be recommended? Does it cause any problems during sex? HELP!

Apart from brief spotting for the first couple of a months, it has been fantastic. Periods have almost disappeared, I can't tell it's there and have to keep reminding myself to check for the strings like I'm supposed to! My friend had the normal copper coil fitted & had endless problems, including REALLY heavy periods, she's changed to the Mirena & has been fine since.
It DID hurt slightly when first fitted but nothing I couldn't cope with.....make sure you ask for the anesthetic gel when they fit it.
No problems at all during sex!!

Hello Doobs, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I had a coil fitted about three years ago ( not Myrena) and it was one of the most harrowing experiences of my life. I've given birth and had several big operations and consider myself no baby, but the pain I went through in the ten minutes or so it took to fit it was unbeareable. I was also in pain for the rest of the day, with cramping like you wouldn't believe. I kept it in for about three months but found that I was bleeding for about 20 days out of 30 each month, so gave in and had it taken out. Sorry to be negative and remember I may just have been unlucky. Having said that though, two of my work colleagues have talked about similar experiences and wouldn't recommend the coil to anybody either. I hope you have a much better experience. Good Luck
