pain/weakness in leg/groin area

Sorry the question is a bit vague but the symptoms are a bit vague!
Every now and then I get a 'discomfort' at the very top of my leg in the groin area. It only happens when I am moving and it feels as if my leg is going to give way underneath me. I couldn't describe it as a strong pain but it is very unpleasant. I am not able to feel anything and it is quite hard to identify exactly where the pain/problem is. I don't put weight on the leg and it tends to pass quite quickly.
Anyone got any clue what it might be?

No idea of your age or the longevity of your symptoms, but in your case I would guess that a physical examination by your GP would reveal the likely problem. Osteoarthritis of the hip. hernia or muscle strain comes to mind.

thanks sqad617 - I'm a 40 year old female and have experienced this for about a year. I haven't gone to the doctor because it is symptomless for 99% of the time.
It doesn't feel like a bony problem and I used to think that it was a strained muscle but that doesn't explain its reoccurrances. Hadn't thought of a hernia though - maybe I should do a bit of surfing on that.
Sounds like a trapped nerve to me., I've experienced this during pregnancy. You should go visit your doctor to see what is causing it.
do you not think it could be coming from your hip, it sounds like what happened to me and i'm waiting for a hip replacement now
