This is caused by your jaws not meeting properly. Does anyone know any good tips? I get a lot of head pain (not just headaches) round my skull and eye sockets. The dentist gave me a guard to wear but it is too big and clumsy. It could be brought on by tension so i do try hard to relax during the day. However, i can go to bed feeling absolutely fine with not a care in the world but wake up with aching head and neck bones, so i must grind my teeth in my sleep. Although my teeth are OK and not ground down.

I can sympathise there - I get times when mine aches and my jaw clicks really loudly. Like you I was advised that stress can worsen it but there's not a lot you can do if you wake up like it!. Have you tried a head and neck massage? You could also try taking up some form of relaxation exercise - Yoga, Tai Chi etc. I went to a chiropractor about back trouble and she ended up manipulating the roof of my mouth and the bones at the back of my skull which helped so that might be worth trying too.
I have it too and its sooooo annoying, it came about when i was pregant with my son ( as your ligaments or something relax!), I bit so hard on the gas and air thingy that my jaw locked (which was the least of my worries at the time). Its been tempremental ever since. You can see a cranial osteopath and they are very good (my son saw one for something else), but are expensive.
good luck xx
