could any one tell me what it is that makes your fingers curl to the palm over night ,and when you eventually get them open, they flick open , most painful

my mom had this and she has just had treatment for carpol tunnel? cant spell sorry but if you ask your GP about this they should beable to help!!
if it is its a simple day surgary at the hospital under a local anersetic ( sorry my spelling is really bad!!)
