Endoscopy update - dreading it even more now!!
9 Answers
After my question the other day about it and reading the replies I rang the hospital to ask if I could have it under a general anaesthetic as I said I was so nervous and had heard not too good things about it. But they said that there is no way I can have a general and so can only have the spray and a local anaesthetic so I am now cacking myself!!!

I read a few stories on the internet about what people were saying what had happened to them when they had one done. The only thing that bothered me was when they put the spray on my throat, you get a choking feeling. Honestly there's nothing to worry about.
A lot of people get anxious/worried and in some cases hysterical about having a gastroscopy. I know it's easier said than done, but relax. Have the throat spray and i won't feel too uncomfortable. It'll be over before you know it and you'll be away in no time.
Having a gastroscopy under a GA is very risky and rarely done. Avoid that option if you can.
Good luck, relax and think positive!

I have also had one without the LA and as tiggertan says it's over quite quickly and you get over it a lot quicker without the LA. I had the choice but you have to hang around for the effects to wear off if you do have one and I hate hospitals. I had to have one for much the same reason as you so I was concerned about choking but once the tube gets past a certain point all you feel is a little discomfort. Having said that, if you feel that you will be better with a sedative then go for it!
Good luck!
Good luck!
