Depression

Hello, I'm 20 and my doctor prescribed me anti depressants in March. My partner and ppl in my family told me not to take them as they made me feel quite ill (which the doctor said they would at first) so i did. But now i am feeling really down again and i'm horrible! i don't mean to be and i don't know why. My moods just turn and i'm always really down and things. I exercise and eat a healthy diet - should i go back to the doctors and get more pills, or is there something else i can do about this?

Go back to your GP and see if he will change the tablets for ones that suit you - there are many different sorts.
If you are not clinically depressed, and just 'down in the dumps' think about making changes in your life. Easily said, I know. It is important to have something to look forward - little things and big things - and have some sort of plan.
Remember that anti-depressants take weeks to work - you have to stick with it.

lots of people say dont take anti depressants.Mainly because they can be addictive.I took them for a while.I am sure your doctor wouldn't have given them to you if they didn't think you needed them.feeling sick is just a side effect, but if it persists then i would go back and maybe ask to change them.Personally if they were helping you wich it sound like the case with you i would continu to take them.

You must see your GP again-don't underestimate depression.I've had depression since I was 16yo-I'm now 35yo.You often have to try a few different antidepressants before finding the right one for you. Many of them do make you feel 'off it' at first, but these side effects should pass.It can be hard to deal with though if you already feel low-but try and stick with them. Also don't take St Johns Wort with antidepressants-its dangerous.Take care.
