Loss of voice after alcohol

Hi

Just wondering, after a drink at the weekend now my voice goes for about 2/3 days and is always a little bit croaky, does anyone else experience this? Hope i havent damaged anything!

This happens to me too, but only after drinking undiluted whiskey. Afraid it sounds like the alcohol is burning the lining of your oesophegas. Dilute alcohol with water of soft drinks.

Alcohol may have a drying affect on the vocal cords, but it is more likely to be the effect of smoke +alcohol. Do you smoke, or do you do your drinking in smoke filled areas?

Nope, dont smoke, and its still happening even after the smoking ban, maybe it is just drying my vocal cords out, eek! Scary thought

its true, alcohol can wear away the oesophagus......you can actually get throat cancer from heavy drinking also.

Probably more likely to be that you tend to shout more when you've had a drink tho!!

Also it dehydrates you a lot........

Look what Jack Daniels whiskey has done for gravel voiced Keith Richards .If you drink Whiskey it's 40% ethanol which strips lubrication from vocal chords so what will it do to the lining of your stomach?

I only get a bad throat after drinking lager,even though every time I say I will stick to shandy.... never works !!
I think the best idea is to mix soft drinks with what ever you're drinking. Easier said than done though !!!

Or just drink pretty coloured water, shout lots, walk funny, insult people that you've just met and throw yourself at someone youre not the least bit attracted to.......

i dont mean to alarm anyone but i had to post after reading your question. my dad is a heavy drinker (beer and whisky) last year he was diagnosed with throat cancer and whilst he has thankfully recovered very well followig radiotherapy the consultant has suggested he can have beer in moderation but absolutley no spirits diluted or not.

im sure its not the same issue if you dont drink in excess but worth questioning with a medical professional
