My doctor offered him Ritalin, but I refused after researching it before it was widely available here. I understood it could give him a personality change which couldn't be reversed, so I decided to give up work and devote myself to his plight. Two years of tests showed no food allergies or intolerances & I was told that the cause may have been a faulty gene (awful to hear!). I was run-down & ragged by my son's antics, but persevered in providing stimulating play & tasks....(to be continued...)
My son is now a "normal" boy of 13., and doing very well at school, etc. It took most of my time up, talking, nurturing, joining in with things where he could burn his energy off - but believe me Lextra, it's all been worth it. I hope you can get your child off ALL drugs, because no one knows the long-term effects. I seriously understand the desire of parents to do something which allows THEM to have a break. The problem can be awful, but if I can do this for my son single-handedly, as WELL as care for a disabled one - then you can too. Good luck to you.
