gall bladder op

hey you guys..
i need to have an operation to have my gall bladder removed...tryin to schedule it now
my ? is has anyone had it done? im getting it done by laser
the attacks are horrendous so i know the surgery can't be anywhere near that but...
how long till you recover?..

I had mine removed by keyhole surgery about 6 years back. I spent one night in hospital after the op and then felt a bit fragile for the next week. After that I was a lot better but you need to be a bit sensible for another couple of weeks. The discomfort was nowhere near as bad as the attacks as you say and really it was just discomfort rather than pain.
Believe me it's worth it just to know you will not get one of those excruciating bouts of pain again!

Hi kyra , hope you are feeling less rough today from the other night love. This link may be helpful to you. The keyhole is a less invasive method and the op is done by passing instruments through a couple of small incisions through the abdomen . Your laser part of it may well be to blast the stones to a smaller size pieces so they can be taken out through the small holes. :-)

I too had mine removed by keyhole nearly 6 years ago. It was a very simple op, and there are 4 very faint small scars, the most prominent being the one just beneath my belly button. The operation itself was a success, and I was home the very next day, but back in hospital 2 days later with a major infection, and the pain was worse that the attacks themselves. After a few shots of morphine and 4 days in hospital, I went home again, and it was established that I was given no anti-biotics to go home with, or anti-biotic cover during the operation and was open to all sorts. After a few weeks I was fine again, but the same thing happened with a friend of my auntie's and we just so happened to have the same consultant. I'm not trying to scare you love, as it's like a breath of fresh air not having to worry about when you're gonna be doubled up in pain again, but most of these things go without a single hitch, and if you don't live in the Truro area of Cornwall, you'll be fine!!! xxxxx

Laser is what�s used in the keyhole op. It�s a simple, non-invasive (as best it can be) procedure. And in fact, many people never have a complaint from the procedure. As recently as 15 years ago (at least here), the norm was to crack open your chest, just like a heart op. It was a real biggie on the scale of not nice ops to have. Now, it�s�well�easy peasy!

I�m sad to hear about Tigres� surgery. Clearly that�s not the norm. I too have had events where post op infections have created more misery than the actual condition.

I wish you well on your surgery. And whilst I realise they are just words, I would suggest that you have little to fret about�it all should be quick and painless.

Thank you father. You've just delivered more sympathy than I had from the entire medical team looking after me. The attitude at the time was, "oh be quiet and keep still; you can't have any more morphine for another 2 hours".

Kyra: You should have no problems at all. It's important to approach this with a frame of mind that says all will be fine - otherwise you create stress for your body.

Hi Kyra so glad your feeling better, and that you've now got your op scheduled, it'll be worth it in the end. I've never been through anything like that but my dad did suffer from kidney stones and i can remember as a child seeing him in pain. Thinking of you.
