it depends on the surgeon and what you both agree to do. What i know there's two ways to get it repaired.
1- open, when the surgeon opens up to make the repair and normally (but depending on the surgeon and there technique) its most commonly used to repair a hernia with a mesh which holds the everything in place. The mesh is sterile and the surgeon will talk you through that.
2- lap work. The surgeon makes smaller incisions and basically inflates the lower cavity where he/she will make the repair from inside, probably using the mesh again but this is normally day surgery and normally you can be out of the hospital within a few hours of having this done.
but your doctor/surgeon will give you the options as to the surgery, the details and everything about the aftercare as well.
