Tonsillectomy
5 Answers
Hi,
Can anyone offer me any advice for what I can expect after my tonsillectomy?
What kind of pain should I expect? This isnt a daft question...is it like having tonsillitus 'pain' or worse?
How long will I be in pain for?
Is there anything that can help me - other than pain killers?
Many thanks...Scared Spcl xx

I won;t pretend it doesn't hurt, because it does. Get yourself some Solpodine in soluble tablets and take two every two hours from the moment you wake up from surgery.
That will keep a lid on the worst of the pain, which will last a matter of four or five days before it starts to ease off.
make sure you have water and Solpodine by your bed. Disolve two in a glass of water, and have it by the bed. and neck it the minute you wake up in the night - which you will! Then disolve two more and have those ready when you go back to sleep.
They will want to see you eat something like cornflakes or toast the day after surgery - that's a condition of letting you go, but that doesn;t hurt any more than the after-surgery pain so don't worry about it.
East soft foords - soup, eggs, and so on. Eat ice-cream if you like it, and have some chilled drinks, but tea is very soothing.
It probably doesn;t complare with childbirth, but it's not a bump on the head either.
I hope this honest unvarnished assessment will help - it won't be as bad as you imagine - things rarely are.
Good luck!
