Had a knee arthroscopy for damaged cartilege three weeks ago. Walking is fine now but trying to kneel and put any weight on my knee is still unbearably painful. Will this improve with time (how long to wait?) or can I expect this after-effect to remain permanently?

Hi Whoever - I had a similar op in February.

I also had a large meniscal cyst removed from the same knee, at the same time as the cartilage repair. It took quite a few weeks before I could kneel down without it hurting, but I feel back to normal now & forget I ever had it done!

I don't think you're giving youself enough time for it to heal properly, so take you time & hope you feel much better soon.
Agree with Smudge- could take 3-4 months or longer. 6 weeks is usual for prettymuch back to normal. There is often a lot of bruising and tenderness which is not obvious when walking, but more obviosu when kneeling or squatting which is quite hard going on the quads
