Hot Toddy?

Anyone got a good recipe for a hot toddy that works please, I am coughing for Scotland and sound like im under water - yuk - had it since last weekend

Heat some brandy or whiskey with water in the microwave, add a good squeeze of lemon and a pinch of sugar. Drink down slowly in sips.

This is the recipe I used when I worked as a barmaid in the 1980's.

Brandy or whiskey, as carolegif says, but substitute a teasp clear honey for the sugar as honey is a proven antibiotic.

Awww weeal - sorry to hear you don't feel well. I do not have a hot toddy receipe - sorry but saw your pos and wanted to wish you better. I had a cough a couple of weeks back and found relief in a cough medicine called Covonia. A linctus and quite warming.

hi skyep, yeah just a rotten cough and runny nose but the cough is right in my chest and really sore

Ive discovered i cant cough and walk at the same time anymore lol (you know what i mean?) bit embarrassin

My brothers hot toddy recipe
Good slug of dark rum , juice from a whole lemon ,two teaspoons of brown sugar ,shake of nutmeg .shake of powdered cinnamon,shake of powdered ginger ,pour on boiling water,stir,consume ,go to bed .

Poor you -its rotten feeling rotten in this rotten weather -isnt it.

My hot toddy is usually whisky but any spirit like brandy would do with lemeon and honey.

I actually like a hot toddy without feeling ill -it does wok wonders if you are ill tho -its really comforting (moreish lol)

What shaney forgot to add after 'go to bed' was.....stay in bed ....as you won't be able to stand :-)

My uncle was a farmer, out in all weather's and swore by hot rum toddy!!

My mum alwas bought a large onion, sliced it and put into dish then covered it with sugar. plate over the top and leave for the juices to come out, then drink it. if you keep putting sugar on it it lasted a couple of days until no more juice came out.

lilacben - I have heard about the onion remedy but never been brave enough to try it lol, sounds revolting

Well, I thought I would be smart and before I went to bed last night I chucked some rum into a hot coffee with 3 sugars - not only was it seriously YUK but I was awake half the night feeling sick lol
Will try the brandy/sugar/water method later tonight

Got the same problem myself at the mo.
I sound like I am barking!
I have been taking cough medicine but is not shifting the devil.
This is rife at the moment.
Think we both ought to go see our GP and get an antibiotic. Actually, I don't have the time to visit GP's but it is the sensible thing to do.

Ooh, you have just given me an idea weeal.
Might try that myself tonight.
It may just give a decent night's sleep for once this week. lol
Maybe should give a mega one to "him indoors" to to knock him out. lol
