I wasn't on it for long - 4 or 5 months at most and came off it gradually, as per the doc's instructions, with no ill effects

I was put on it but I immediately knew it was going to disastrous for me because for 24 hrs I had panic attack after panic attack until it was out my system.I cant take anything out that particualar 'family' -I am just uber sensitive to them.
I have also known people who have balloned and had great difficulty in weaning them selves of it.
Its a case of suck it and see -Huderon was fine with it.
I dont want to be alarmist at all -that was just my peronal experiences with and also of others who have been on the TV speaking about it.
Try googling and you will find out other peoples experiences -however you dont often get told of the people who had no problems -therin lies your dilemna.

SleepyJ, this drug comes with a lot of warnings. People are suing the manufacturers left right and centre for playing down the side effects. The withdrawals can be awful, if you drink with it, it can mess up your eyes and the side effects are bad enough for it to have an extra label on the outside of the box, advising you to read the warnings inside. I can;t think of many drugs with that.
sleepyyj, I have been taking Seroxat (paroxetine) for almost 12 years. I have tried coming off it on two occasions but with my doctors advice it has been recommended I stay on them long term. Most side-effects I have experienced are vivid dreams, occasional headaches and night sweats. I started taking Seroxat because I used to suffer panic attacks particularly while at work. I would say they have done their job quite successfully and I live a normal life with them but not sure if I can ever come off them.
Going on Seroxat was one of the worst decisions I've (or my doctor's) ever made. At first I felt great, but when I tried to come off it the side effects were horrendous. I completely and utterly believe Seroxat is physically addictive - and have friends with similar experiences.
I craved it while coming off and started stashing pills, which I knew was crazy. For six months after coming off it I would physically shake on a day-to-day basis, felt like I had electric shocks going through my head and, most worryingly, had visual and auditory hallucinations. I also had a lot of problems with my balance, kept falling over and kept falling off my chair at work.
My GP admitted at this point that other patients of his had had similar experiences. It's a tough one, because Seroxat is far and away the most effective anti-depressant I've tried, but coming off it made me suicidal and I started self-harming (which was a first for me).
Getting over what I genuinely believe was an addiction to Seroxat was far worse than any depression I have suffered.
If I were you I'd think long and hard before taking Seroxat and consider Lustral or Prozac first. (Seroxat also made me balloon up in weight, which the others didn't)
After my Seroxat experience I threw away all my prescription pills and decided to tackle my mental health myself. It's not been easy, but I've been 'clean' for four years now. I use a combination of yoga, meditation and hiking. Whenever I feel low I force myself not to stay in bed and to get to the gym or get my butt up a mountain!
Hope this helps - I know lots of people have had good experiences on Seroxat but I know of far too many who've had a terrible time to recommend it. Personally I think it should be banned.

For some people it is excellent and enables them to achieve a normal lifestyle. I know people who will be on it forever, because they are clinically depressed - they are unable to maintain the proper levels of hormone in their brains without it.
For sadness such as bereavement or other reactive triggers, I wouldn't recommend it. Such sadness is normal and doesn't need drugs.
For abnormal hormone levels, it is a lifesaver.

Am speaking for a friend who is completely addicted to Seroxat. She absolutely panics when she gets down to her last tablet.
Once she said she did not have any for one day and she said herself she went loop-loo. I was given anti-depressants myself but never took them - I'm bad enough!!
I do take a wee sleeping aid and without them I simply do not function. I dont care if they are addictive it helps me to get up in the morning and live!!!!

Hi sleepyj
I have to agree 100% with SRH
It took me 2 years of side affects to get off this drug in the end i did it.
At first i thought Seroxat also known as proxatine was helping me. I was on the tablet for some 10 years,Im off them now something i wish id done years ago.
When i read the side effects from the page i have given you it was as if i had written them.
I thought i was going mad until i read the reports users had sent in. And it then proved to me it was the tablets...
