coughing up blood!

just woke up and started coughing up a small amout of blood in my saliva ,is this serious?, i don't smoke and have no chest pains and feel well

Have you had a heavy cold? Could you have a slight nose bleed very high up the nose so it going down the back rather than out the nostril?

Is it bright red? Runny, speckled or clotted? Frothy?

If you are at all worried ring NHS direct, but as you feel well I wouldn't be panicking.

You do need to get checked out just in case but my proffessional opinion as a nurse wthout seeing you is that coughing has caused a tiny cut in your oesophagus or windpipe. As Ethel said what is this blood like? If it is bright, hence fresh, it is probably as I said.
Neverleave anything to chance though and please get it checked out.
