You can get Vitamin C or "Ascorbic Acid" in doses ranging from 10mg to 500mg.
Vitamin C is not made naturally by Humans due to evolution, so there is a dietary need, either from citrus fruits or supplements.
Vitamin C is essential to strengthen Collagen in the arterial walls hence deficiency causes scurvy, Its Anti-oxidant potential has been a hot debate within the scientific community for years.
The two time Nobel prize winner Chemist "Linus Pauling" was a pioneer in the experimentation/science behind Vitamin C. Here are a few links and an excellent lecture clip from the great man himself.

In excess it is just known to cause diarrhoea, in doses say 3-4g per day.
I hope you find these clips interesting :)

I learn't a great deal of information from your answer and from the web links you supplied.
What are your thoughts on taking 5g of vit C, and 5g of lysine, 200mg of CoQ10, and 1000mg of proline?
Also do you take any of these supplements?
If you do which brands are the best ?
I now know that Lypo-Spheric Vit C is the best on the market thanks to your previous answer.
Can you buy it from the U.K?

Your best idea is to eat a balanced diet, make sure you get your 5 a day in fruit and veg and don't overdo either alcohol or caffeine. Boring I know, but ever so much cheaper that a lot of supplements (and tastier too!) Raw food is usually better than cooked, steamed better than boiled to a pulp, bright greens and oranges better than pale and wishy-washy. There is no need on an average income to have a diet deficient in essential minerals and vitamins. If it is then it's your diet you need to fix - not tinker around the edges with supplements. Don't forget that if your diet has more of a substance than your body requires, generally it simply won't absorb it. Where it does absorb it, it will tend to excrete it, and where it can't it will tend to react badly. Too much Vit C will give you the squits (5g per day is way too much) and too much Vit A will kill you!
Yeah it's good if my advice helps you in anyway.
I'm not qualified to give you specific advice on your diet or what's best for you I'm afraid, but dundurn's comments seem to make basic sense as far as a lifestyle approach is concerned. You've also got to try and find unbiased/scientific evidence for any claims whilst keeping an open mind, because unfortunately the internet is full of pseudo-science.
You might find this book written by Linus Pauling interesting. You can probably find it in your local library or purchase it off amazon fairly cheaply.

Yes the Linus Pauling book does look interesting !
I will try and get it out from a library, if not i will buy it.
The book i would recommend to you is called Eat to live by Joel Fuhrman. This book is focused more on a lifestyle approach to eating a balanced diet, however there is also a little bit of supplement advise thrown in.
