Heart Murmur {few queries!}

I fainted today, out of the blue, never happened before. Anyway, when they were examining me the doctor at the hospital said I had a heart murmur and there's no way to tell how long I ave had it as I've got no hospital history. I have always said to my friends and family that my heart feels like it's beating hard - by that I mean that I can really feel it pounding. The doctor didn't seem to concerned {I didn't mention the pounding!} but now it's got me thinking. For one thing I'm in the process of applying for the Army and I'm wondering if this could now cause me problems and that they might say no to me. Anyone know their rules? Do you think I should visit my GP or just carry on as usual Any advice would be welcomed, thanks.

what harm would it do to have it checked out what 15 minutes of your day but if you don't get it checked out and there is more wrong than first thought your be blo0dy glad u went.
make an appointment asap just to be on the safe side get ur self an m.o.t

I'd get yourself checked out properly hun - but if it's any consolation, I know someone who's lived with a heart murmour for years, and they lead a pretty normal life. x

Just laugh about it Chirpy - you get ALL sorts of answers on here.
Guess you'd have to have an army medical, wouldn't you? They'd be able to tell you more, especially after a report from your doctor as well. best of luck!

Yeah I could do but I've got as far as I can get now...I'm just waiting until my fitness is a bit better before I get called in for selection...it's so damn annoying as I want this SO much...been in the same un-fullfilling job for nearly 12 years and have got to do something about it. This is just me flaming luck!

As an example, I know someone who had to leave the army on medical grounds. They've now been accepted back, though! In the case of a heart murmour, I really don't know, but if you can manage exercise without much difficulty, then I would've thought you'd be OK - but only a trained professional can give you the green light or not. Hope you get your wish, but if not, there are surely other jobs which offer challenge and excitement - or even better pay?

Thanks, I will just have to wait and see I suppose. I was actually visiting my friends premature baby when I collapsed this morning..so at least I was in the right place eh? Going to bed now...although I've got a huge egg on my head where I smacked the ground, ouch!

My mother has a heart murmur, but her's is quite serious and age related. The only way she will recover is to have an Aortic Valve replacemet, but due to her being in her 80's we are concerned she wont make it through surgery.

I think you should ask your GP to refer you to a Cardiologist.

my friend has a heart murmur so she couldn't have an operation I think she said, I should have listened to what she was saying that day!!
