cataract procedure

Hi. My Dad is due for this procedure, and is wondering how (under local anaesthetic) the eyeball is held steady during the op, Can you see anything out of the eye during the op, and how is the head held steady?

im sure when he's in the ward just before his operation, he'll be given eyedrops which dilate the pupil. the eyedrops actually have some local anaes in it as well. I've seen them use a special retractor for the eye to keep the eyelid open and while operating the surgeon and/or nurse will skoosh some sterile water or saline so the eye doesn't dry out.
usually to keep the head still, a head ring will be used.
