Cant remember much tests as a such depends how old you are, what are you problems such as fibroids,or ovarian cancer, or trouble with the womb everyone is different, they may decide on a partial hystectomy or a total one!i wasnt really told what my options if any i just had to go along with it!
Or do you mean the pre-med - to check that you are fit enough for surgery?

Thank you ladies. I've been diagnosed with quite a large cyst which appears to be on an ovary. I imagine that a biopsy'll be taken to determine its condition. I have to see a gynaecologist on Friday, but was told to expect 3 hours of tests. It's these I'm wondering about? I would imagine blood & urine samples'll be looked at, and maybe further scans done - but why three hours of tests??? I'm really dithering about it all.
I had ovarian cysts back when I was 17,they were diagnosed by ultra sound scan.I also had internal and abdominal examinations and blood and urine tests.I think they have told you it will take 3 hours as you will have to be seen by different departments and they will all have to slot you in when they have room/time.I didn't need surgery of any kind as my cysts disappeared on their own which amazed the doctors! My eldest sister however had awful trouble with the same thing and had to have several surgeries to remove the cysts, one op was during a pregnancy as the cyst burst and she collapsed.Eventually they removed one ovary and then later her womb and other ovary.........all by the age of 36.
Good luck with it all.x
hi icemaiden, the 3hrs could mean that its a one stop shop basically and you get the tests and results all in one go, i had a cyst removed on my right ovary in 1999 it doesnt mean that you have to have a hysterectomy, they just need to make sure so they cover everything, cysts can be fluid filled, gristle filled or fat filled, the majority of them are harmless but need to be removed if they do not show signs of disappearing or shrinking as they can cause pain, i went on to have a full hysterectomy due to other problems, the following year at the age of 35, i count myself lucky as i already had 2 boys.
good luck with your tests.
Hi Icey,
Sorry I cannot help with your query but just like to wish you good luck for friday.
Try not to worry too much I am sure youll be fine

Thank you everyone, you've been very helpful and kind. I just can't get over how large the cyst is, and i'm terrified it'll turn out to be malignant or something - or that a biopsy could cause cells to float off and turn cancerous, etc. I know that if the thing has to be removed, which undoubtedly it will, then I can't have a laproscopy. You ladies who've already suffered similar things seem very brave to me. The thought of what's to come just fills me with dread, & since having internal scans, I've had on and off pains in the stomach region, so don't know if it's because of the prodding, or if it's something worse!
Hi again Ice.Maiden :-)
I can understand why you are worried about all of this! How large is the cyst that needs removing? have they told you whether it is fluid filled or appears solid? If it is fluid filled they may well be able to drain it and then remove it which would be a much easier operation and probably leave a much smaller scar. Are they taking your appendix out whilst they are there as this seems to be common procedure for some reason. The chances of the cyst being malignant are fairly small so although it is natural to worry about that sort of thing I think you will find it is just a large cyst.I was actually surprised at how common they are, there does seem to be a familial link to them too as all of my 3 sisters and myself have had them,my eldest sister is the only one who had serious problems with them though, and only because hers burst.
I hope your tests and the operation go smoothly and you will keep us up to date with what is happening.xxx

Hello Daffy and everyone. Sorry to keep on about this, but tomorrow's the day when I find out more, and I'm not feeling good about what's to come I'm afraid! This cyst was 12cm across when it was measured 2 weeks ago, but not sure whether it's a solid mass or whatever yet. No one in the family's ever had such a thing, & I don't know of any blood relative who's had anything malignant. I'm sure there were some in the past, but no one I can name. Even so, my stomach's now bloated out - obviously - and although there's no pain, it's a bit uncomfortable. It's the mind tricks which're the most difficult at the moment, & I can't shift the morbid thoughts. Thank you for all your help though. It's helped to listen to people with more experience of these things than myself. I'll keep you posted. x
Oh Ice! Bless! You poor thing. I know you must be terrified, but try to keep positive and think that at least, you haven't left it go unnoticed, so now you are in good hands! I'm sure everything will be fine hun. Keep us posted, we will all be thinking of you. Hugs! xxx
good luck for tomorrow, remember you will be in our thoughts. we are all willing you the best outcome, keep your chin up girly :-)xxx
All the best for tomorrow Ice. These things are frightening but you know you are in the best possible hands and they know what they are doing. Keep us posted.
Good luck for tomorrow Ice Maiden

Girls - thank you very much yet again. Not long come back from being poked and prodded, and they took enough blood to start a transfusion service! Anyway, I'm afraid the outcome's a partial hysterectomy (both ovaries). They found some cysts on the other side as well. I was given the choice of when I wanted the op, so without dithering any longer, it's set for 19th June, because I know I can't stop the inevitable, and just in case anything was to be malignant, it's best to get it sorted out. I'm feeling very depressed at the moment, because I was hoping for more babies - but I'm thankful for the 2 lovely children we've been blessed with, and just hope that things'll go alright. Cheers everyone. xxx
Is there any way you can afford to have some of your eggs frozen when they remove the ovaries? They could then be fertilised via IVF and you could possibly still have more children.I know it would be an expensive option but I think I remember you saying before that you are quite well off???
I know my sister went into a state of grief when she had her partial and then full hysterectomy so make sure you allow yourself the time to do the same! Best of luck for your operation.xxx ((((((((((hugs))))))))))

Just read this Ice babe , and I want to tell you that I totally understand you will feel very upset , and cheated . All I can say is for you to hang onto to the fact that it's better that they come out than turn nasty.
Bless you , my thoughts are with you and I do know what you are going through honey , I had tests one day and was rushed in for total hysterectomy and bilateral oopherectomy , ( ovaries removal ) , in my 40s .

Icey, I'm so sorry. When I spoke to you on CB last night I had no idea this was what you are going through right now. I hadn't been on AB for most of the week. I gathered you'd been for tests but I didn't want to pry. I've got a bit of a gyny prob myself at the moment and it's got me all worried. Not to the extent that you must be worrying though hun. All my love and thoughts are with you darling. ((((((xxx♥♥♥xxx))))))
Ive 'spoken' with Icey and she is just her usual philosophical self -its a bitter pill to swallow -at any age but specially at hers.
