Does anyone know anything about myelin sheath damage? My boyfriend has had constant pain in his elbow for about 2 years now. He is on the waiting list for an operation but apparently there is a 2 year wait because there is only 2 surgeons that do the procedure and they are in south africa. Also he is losing feeling in hand and may lose the use of his arm if not sorted soon. does anyone know where to find more info on web as I have looked but not much luck. Thanks.

Myelin sheath is the covering of all nerves. The fact that your boyfriend is on the waiting list for operation would suggest that he is going to have a decompression (relief of pressure) on the affected nerve. Many nerves are involved, not at the same time thankfully. Facial nerve ( nerve of the face) Optic nerve ( nerve of sight) nerves of the cauda equina (spinal cord nerves) et. etc. Which is it?

It is on his elbow.
Right, it is probably his ulnar nerve that is trapped as it passes around a groove in his elbow. Quite a common condition and surely there are more than two surgeons in the UK who can do the operation.
Question Author
Its not actually a nerve that is trapped but its a tear in the myelin sheath.
