I went to the gym for the first time in about a year and a half on Wednesday. Had a decent workout didn't push it to hard or so I thought... I'm now aching like hell any ideas on how I can speed up my recovery? I'm generally quite fit as I rock climb regularly and play badminton, I'm just not used to this aching. I didn't used to get it when I went to the gym before!
I was told there were two reasons for sore muscles after exercise. 1. not warming down afterwards - helps the lactic acid removal from the muscles.
2. Not drinking enough water during or after exercise - ditto.
But I always get sore muscles anyway.
If this is different from the previous times that you have exercised before then you may have to see the doc?
It is probably because you have used different muscle groups. Make sure you warm up properly, a good 20 minutes and include plenty of stretching. Make sure you are not overdoing your exercise, a year and a half is a long time even if you are fairly fit, as rock climbers are no doubt, and as others have said make sure you cool down, another 15 minutes. I always have a warm bath instead of a shower after a gym session and give myself a massage whilst relaxing, that always does the trick.
Hi
There are some essential oils that are excellant at providing relief from muscular aches and pains. The best ways to do this is 1 by putting some of these oils in a good hot bath - opens your skin pores and the oils are absorbed in that way, or 2 by massage (preferably by someone else!!).
Really you need to speak to a qualified aromatherapist for a consultation... or the cheap way is to buy a preblended oil ready for use. I've used eden aromatherapy on line and found them to be really helpful - and inexpensive.
