Canal paresis is where the semicircular canals in the inner ear fail to respond to caloric tests - i.e. they are effectively paralysed.
It may result from acoustic neuroma.
Did she have the caloric tests (water in her ears and reaction measured?).
It could be she did not react to the tests in the way that was expected (ie a bad response) so it indicates that there may be a problem causing the ears to react in this way.
I used to have a lot of these tests for meniere's which causes my vertigo.
