sorry, another weight loss question, but i want to buy either an exercise bike, or treadmill or rowing machine for home use. i need to lose weight from my stomach (spare tyre and gut) and my torso (chest/pecs) but i have skinny legs. which would work best do you think. it will be part of an overall plan involving cutting out excess fat from my diet. i only have a small budget, so can't afford an all in one kind of machine. thanks. ps i am male if that makes any difference.

Why don't you just go for regular bike rides or go for a power walk, leading up in time to a jog. You don't necessarily need to buy any expensive CV kit.

If you want something to use at home, buy a good quality mini trampoline, a set of dumbbells, workout bench (optional) and a Swiss ball.

Spend 20-30 minutes 3 -4 times per week doing your Aerobic exercise, which will help to get you get fit and burn calories. For your body to use excess fat as fuel, you do need to do a balanced resistance workout, using either weights, your own body weight or both. The more lean muscle you carry, the more fat will be burned and your metabolism will increase.

Unfortunately you cannot spot reduce fat from any particular area, it will go from where it will go and stubborn areas like the stomach are usually the last to go.

Start off with 2 sets of 12 repetitions of the following.

Dumbbell Chest Press OR Press ups
Dumbbell Single Arm Rows
Dumbbell Shoulder Press
Swiss Ball Wall Squats with Dumbbell Front Raise
Swiss Ball Hamstring Rolls
Static or Dynamic Lunges (Alternate Legs)
Swiss Ball Stomach Crunches
Heel Taps (For lower abs)

It is important to change your routine every 4-6 weeks, to avoid your body adapting (getting used to) the exercises you are doing.

I have an exercise bike, treadmill and rowing machine.

You can use the bike while watching tv if you dont like spending large amounts of time workinf out, but I find that the whole sitting down and just working the legs is not enough 'all body really' although in might bulk up those skinny legs' you can trun the dial or press the button in increase the resistance and make the workout harder as yu get used to the machine.

Rowing machine is an all body work out and it is also low impact, I have the best rower you can buy but I still find this can get quite boring to do and I lack motivation. I have also in the past bought cheap rowers and they are terrible quality, so something to be careful of, if you get a magnetic one you might be able to watch tv but the air powered one like mine are the best but noisey.

Treadmill I would say is the best as it is all body you can do it for long periods and it a good callorie burner, you can walk jog and run at different speeds for different amounts of time and even on some models tilt the running platform so you are walking/running up hill. Only problem is the cost these are quite expensive, I bought mine about 5yrs ago and it was about 1,000, it is still ok though so it has lasted well. there are better priced ones theses days but you want a powerful one which has lots on running space and is easy to use.

I dont know how much you would want to spend but with any of the machines I would recommend you also search online for better prices but more importantly reviews, what people think of the machine, better to know before you buy it.
