what is the effect of having a big toenail removed.

another one will grow. if your toenail has been loose for a while (after being bashed, for example) there may already be re-growth underneath.
can be a bit uncomfortable though

Thank you for your answers but I have been told that if I have one removed the toe will be chemically treated to prevent a new growth. I did have a thumb nail removed some years ago after hitting it with a hammer and it did grow witjout problems so I am a little confused.
it will grow back in time, mine did in about 3-4 months, there as a ridge at the early growth but now its fine and prefectly normal
I had mine removed over ten years ago now with no regrowth. It is obviously more sensitive as there is no 'protective covering' on it, but after a while you don't notice it's missing.. unless you look at it (which is sometimes unsightly).
