Improving Singing voice
3 Answers
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to improve my singing voice with exercises?
When I was pregnant with my first son (5 years ago) my voice changed and I sounded a bit like a teenage boy whose voice was breaking. Each time I opened my mouth it was pot luck whether any sound would come out and if it did what pitch it would be.
It carried on after pregancy and GP thought it could be a nodule on my vocal chords but specialist said that they were clear.
Im OK now with talking but my singing voice is still pretty poor. I was never a Celine, a Liza or a Mariah but I could at least sing in tune! My range is very limited and lower than it was although it doesnt jump around as much as it did a couple of years ago and I would love to go back to being in am dram productions.
Is there anything I can do?

I interviewed Thea Gilmore, and she confirmed that exactly the same thing has happened to her since her pregnancy - it's something to do with internal organs moving and pressing on the diaphragm as baby develops.
Keep practising, and try to make sure you do sing from your diaphragm and not into your throat which will make you haorse quite quickly.
I am sure your range will improve.
Good luck.

Your vocal cords are normal which is an important point at which to start.
You need vocal cord re-education and would suggest this web site.

Always make sure that you are well hydrated before singing.
Good luck.
