My Dad needs some help once a week on miscellaneous items and I cant find anyone willing to work part time. Everyone wants a full time job?

Perhaps he could advertise in the local newsagents for a retired or semi-retired person who would like to do the occasional job to supplement their pension.

You could have a look on myhammer.co.uk. You post what work you need doing, and people bid to do the work. You then get to choose who you want based on price/ratings etc.
If you find someone you like, then you can get them to come back!People do put jobs on for recurrent work, or just for one offs.
It covers all tradesmen, so can get all kinds of jobs done. We've used it several times and had good results.

I know that you probably have it sorted by now but our local weekly paper has an advert or two for handymen.

I got them to do minor stuff in the house - stuff I could get an OH to do if I had one! They weren't too dear and they did checks on their staff for criminal records etc.

It is very difficult to find a trusted person for part time work. Eldess provides Odd Jobs Man whom you can hire one time, or weekly or monthly. This person is not a skilled tradesman, but he will be able to help your parents as you or your friendly relative would, run to an office for tracing an application/ get documents copied/ find a repairman. He can accompany your parents to an office, help with groceries/ medicenes etc as well.
