Is there any good reason why I shouldn't buy the cheapest on the market, say Tesco or Sainsbury?

No reason at all. They are all the same generic drug .
Only fools pay for branded medicines where generics are available.
There is no difference whatsover between the supermarket own brand and the big name brands.
I agree with both answers above, but there is another side to the coin........a moral one?

Tesco or Sainsbury will not donate any of the money collected from the sale of generic drugs to drug research.
Moneys obtained from the sale of branded drugs will in part be directed into further drug research for that particular company.

Just a thought.
also, check out the own brand hayfever/anti allergy tablets. we used to buy benadry but in the last 12 months now buy asda smart price ones as they contain the same stuff and are HUGELY cheaper (can't remember the exact price but something totally ridiculous like 5 or 98p).
I've got no sympathy with the drug companies, sqad. Apart from handouts for research they get massive profits while their drugs are sold exclusively under licence.
A recent tv programme stated that the branded stuff had a better placebo effect than generics, but thats only if you're fooled by advertising. Always look at the ingredients and you will soon find out that you are being ripped off!
I went to get some paracetamol in a Boots pharmacy once and in asking for the cheaper own brand ended up having the pharmacist give me a 20 minute lecture about how I shouldn't buy the cheaper ones as they aren't as well made (I think sausages were the analogy!).

I ended up buying the cheaper ones anyway.

Thanks everyone for your comments, which are, as usual, varied and interesting. I did indeed by Tesco's own at 23p for 16.
