Excessive burping

This had been driving me mad for a while.

It tends to come on in the evenings and ofte a good few hours after I've had my evening meal.

I had a problem with a stomach ulcer and acid reflux for a while but that died down once I went on lanzoprazole then shifted when I got onto omeprazole.

I have been feeling OK for a while so not been taking it. Not getting the chest pain and such anymore but have been nurping excessively, just over and over again.

I don't really drink fizzy drinks and have been carefully watching in case I'm taking in too much air generally and esp when eating, I don't chew gum.

Does anyone know how I can find out what's likely to be causing it before I bother the doctor with it, or how I can get rid of it?

Almost certainly a side effect of omeprazole.

If it persists then ypu need an upper GI investigation to exclude other causes.

Treatment.......any of the popular antacids.
Cheers sqad (it's me, forgot I'm signing into my zapped name when I'm on my work pc).

I haven't taken Omeprazole for quite a while now, stopped taking it once the acid reflux and ulcer problems seemed to sort themselves out. I would have put it down to that if I'd still been taking it.

I had a camera up and down last year as my rhumo referred me to gastro to see if my tummy problems were inflammatory bowel and causing my arthritis but from the letter I got seems like all they found were some polyps. Not got my appointment now for a few weeks (they have very long waiting lists).

Also had the barium meal and various blood and other tests but don't think they've shown anything so far so probably bad IBS.

It seems like a high throated burp if that makes sense?

I seem to get a lot of excess air both ways.

Oh the things I admit on this site!
jenna, you have certainly had a high standard of health care excluding all other causes for your symptoms.

I cannor suggest any remedy as it sounds as though it is in the throat and not the stomach.

Sorry jenna.
No worries sqad, thank you for your time anyway though.

They have been very very good I have to say :)
