A couple of times in the past 2 weeks, my husband has experienced a sharp pain in his calf when out walking. He says its like a sudden bursting effect which spreads over the calf area. It hasnt stopped him continuing his walk but the calf is tender and is obviously swollen compared to the other calf. What could it be?

Your husband needs to see his GP as a matter of urgency to rule out deep vein thrombosis.
Sounds muscular to me....a pulled calf muscle. See your GP re Physiotherapy.
