Apart from cost and convenience of appointments, is there any difference between a vasectomy performed on the NHS at a local surgery and one done by a private clinic?

The NHS uses two bricks.
Truthfully, there is no difference at all.
No....both will perform the same procedure using the same techniques and local anaesthesia. One will charge you extortionate amounts of money to perform the procedure in a private hospital whilst the other will do it for free.
My other half had his performed within a week of asking on the NHS and the result was no more worrying and no more kids :)

Thanks for the quick responses. I wondered if maybe the NHS just used a sharp knife and a sewing kit, whereas the private people had some fancy laser zapper thingy! :)
One big difference:

Private...the Consultant will do it.

NHS....it might be a junior........!!!
Awww..but the juniors always have a senior present...don't they???
the Consultant will refer you to a private hospital where the surgeon will do it.

juniors do not perform operation they observe

"juniors do not perform operation they observe".

swanko.....you must be joking!!!!!!!!!

Ice Maiden.......maybe!!!!!!!!!
My OH had his vasectomy performed by the consultant on the NHS,he was a very nice Indian gentleman and he was very considerate and calming according to my OH :)
daffy....how do you know that the"nice Indian gentleman" was the consultant...........did he introduce himself?
I doubt if consultants do all vasectomies. Its considered a simple procedure normally and would therefore be delegated to a more junior doctor. Consultants, rightly, take on more complicated stuff

Why waste your money on going private when exactly the same is available on NHS ?
Rosetta....there is no such thing as a "simple proceedure" in surgery......especially a vasectomy.
Does having a Vasectomy diminish a Man's Sex Drive ?
I have often wondered about this and would be interested in hearing the views of Squad617 and others who are in the Know.
Have not had Vasectomy myself but did consider it at one time.
redman...no, the sex drive is hormonal and nothing to do with blocking the pathway of the sperms by dividing their only path of entry.
Thank you Squad for your Answer. The Human Brain plays a big part in ones Sex Drive ? I think I'm correct in that ?
redman....quite correct............unfortunately my brain has lost contact.
LOL Squad ! It's all this swallowing Semen on the other thread that's doing our Brains in !!!!
redman....LOL LOL
Before my OH was allowed to have the operation I had to sign a form to say I agreed to it (lord knows why),we both sat and discussed the whole procedure with the consultant (who had already introduced himself as such). When my OH turned up for the actual op less than a week later it was the same doctor who performed the procedure.
daffy, that is excellent service........but not necesarily widespread throughout the NHS.
I have said before that the NHS has treated me and my family very well over the decades sqad.I know there are problems within the organisation in general, but my treatment has always been excellent. In fact the NHS (hospital and paramedic staff) have saved my life and those of my children more than once.......we are not a very healthy bunch! lol
