Grandson,3, very large lump behind left ear

My little grandson has a very large lump behind his left ear. The doctor told my daughter it was a swollen gland but only one side and that was not normal. He has now been put on antibiotics. And that is all he said.

Many thanks. The doctor was worried becuse he said they should both have been swollen not just one side. I will tell my daughter. thankyou again.

Is the lump...BEHIND the left ear or BEHIND AND BELOW the left ear?

Is there any element of the lump IN FRONT of the left ear?

Has he had an infection in the scalp recently?

Hi squd the lump is behind his ear, you can see it without touching it. looks like an egg. No his scalp is ok.he has very high temp and really looks poorly.

Well, providing he hasn't got a discharging ear, then it must be a lymph gland and should settle with antibiotics.

The reason that I was so pedantic about the site of the swelling was that I wondered if it could be mumps, but not as you described the swelling.

liiac............of course depending upon how it feels to the touch, it may need surgical drainage.

Many thanks sqad for your replies. I did wonder myself if it could be mumps but he wasnt suffering any signs. He is on antibiotics now and today he looked a little better, more colour in his cheeks, bless him. We will keep an eye on the lump.
