I have an ingrown toenail on my right foot and a weak ankle on my left. Every tried limping with both feet? Which pain should I favour. Can't face a walking stick just yet. Born to suffer!!

you need a support shoe are you getting the nail treated?
I;d go for limping on the weak ankle. Walking on it will only make it weaker so concentrate on getting the ingrowing toemail sorted and cut a v in top of nail to ease pain
get crutches and swing with both feet :)

seriously, sorry to hear of pain but hopefully ingrown toenail will ease quickly
I had my ingrown toenail permanently removed about 15 years ago.....the taxi driver nearly fainted when I said it was being done at the day clinic under local anaesthetic......

The nail is so painful at the moment, the thought of even LOOKING at it, let alone touching it makes me feel faint. Someone told me soaking it in salt water helps. Do you think they're just trying to shut me up with me moaning??
Luzzly you really need to get to the doctors......people laugh about ingrowing tonenails but if infected they can be very nasty.....
Salt water is healing! For lots of things, the vet told me to put it on the poor cat's head the other day where he had an abcess. The salt water helps keep it clean

You're right craft, but if he tried to touch it........ !! Ouch. I suppose antibiotics might be a good thing. It is red and swollen, so I suppose it is already infected.
luzzly, get to A&E as it can be dealt with quicker than waiting for a doc's appointment.
I had mine treated twice and you don't feel anything as you have a local jab.....first time they just cut the nail where it was growing in and packed some funny organic stuff (which rotted away gradually) underneath it to try and stop it growing in again.
This didn't work so eventually I had it removed altogether......relief instant and brilliant.

Thanks Alba - I'm beginning to think it may be more serious than I thought. Although I must say I'm fortunate with my doc - in that I ring up at 8.30am and can get an afternoon appointment same day.
as I said cut a v in top

Do you meant the very top 4get? Cos it's so swollen at the side I can't touch it.
Craft, a guy I used to work beside had his removed and was the happiest we'd seen him in a long time. He said the relief was quick and wonderful
alba.......best 5 minute op ever.......had to put dresiings on for a couple of weeks but oh the relief......and no I don't miss the toenail......
Ingrowing toenail is so painful - my sympathies. Do bathe it and cutting the v inthe middle as 4get said will start taking a bit of pressure off the sides and go see a doc. Would it be a good idea to strap up ankle when walking to give extra support. A bit of teatree oil in water when soaking foot also - feel better soon
having seen the pain he was in on and off for about 3 years, I've kinda been taking care of my toe-nails. Makes my eyes water thinking about it.

Luzzly, phone the docs :) Mine are also pretty good if I can get through to them at 8.30

Thanks so much for all your advice. I'm going to hobble off to the kitchen now and stand and make tea (like a true martyr!) but I will ring the doc in the morning cos don't want the infection spreading. Tara folks
