cervical cancer

hi guys, im 28 and have recently had a smear, it came back abnormal and i have to now wait for an apointment about a colposcopy,

ive never had a smear before, and im crapping myself thinking i have cancer!!!!

i havent had any of the symptoms apart from some discharge, which i have for about 2 weeks after each period and it doesnt smell so didnt think anything of it,

im just looking for reassurance i guess, have any of you out there had an abnormal smear??? it says 1 in 10 come back abnormal but im 28 and this is my first one!!!! it can take 10 years for cancer to develop, and i could have had this for 10 years for all i know!!!!!

im so scared now, how normal is this????

calm down! don't assume the worst, they may just keep an eye on you for a while as some abnormal changes can actually right themselves. there is some good info here, but really.. chill a bit. panicking isn't going to make it any better or worse, and your appointment could be weeks or even months away.

sara has said it all and remember that 1in 10 that come back abnormal doesn't necessarily mean malignant or even pre-malignant.

Abnormal just means that.....abnormal.
