Blood Tests

I'm a long term, type 1 diabetic (35yrs & 4 on a pump) and recently got my latest blood results back.

When I looked at them I noticed that they only checked HbA1c (5.7%) - last couple of years they have always been in the 5s with little hypo and BP was 124/65 Hg. Shouldn't my creatinine levels be looked at regularly? ( haven't done a 24hr urine collection for years)

I presume that I can just go to my GP and just ask for this & a cholesterol test? How frequently do they need doing? I only see my consultant once a year as he reckons - just keep on doing what you are doing, and as a rule I'm happy with that. But that means that tests don't get done very often.

Hope someone can enlighten me :o)

i don't know about the creatinine test, but yes, you can just ring up and get an appointment with the nurse for a cholesterol test, you don't even need to see the doctor to arrange it. just explain to the nurse about the creatinine test when you go, i'm sure it wouldn't be a great problem.
WOW! It seems to me you're making a huge mountain out of a molehill here, all this testing and in the meantime you worry yourself silly. The understanding of diabetis is so much more sophisticated now in 2010. I've been a type one diabetic for over 30 years, Twice a year I have a full medical and I mean FULL, I stick to the rules and I lead a notmal life in every other way. No Hassle No bother. I don't need it and my doc. knows this.

Thanks for comment ethandron & Jemisa

I am a calm person! - but think that I'm the prime person, for looking after me, and for that I need a little info. No knowledge might means all is ok, but if there are early problems, I would like to know

Did I really sound in such a flap??! Not me at all :o)

I'm booked in on Friday for ACR & cholesterol now.
Alliegid, You'll be fine... as you say if we don't look after our diabetis no one will, especially after having it soo long. This is what my clinic nurse says, I know if something is wrong, I know what to do about it, she said she would be patronising me if she tried to advise, After all she was still in a gym-slip when I was diagnosed.(She has asked me for advice before now) I know what you mean about keeping an eye on things. but twice a year full MOT is enough for me. I go to my local chemist for a cholesterol test (4.9) last check.

Keep Well A. Jem.
