White tongue??!!

I seem to have become a frequent visitor to this board lately! I got braces fitted last Wednesday, fixed train tracks on the bottom and a removable retained type appliance on the top with a bite plate aka a sheet of plastic in the top of my mouth. As of Wednesday, I have been doing the slim fast diet because I need to lose weight anyway, and eating is really difficult with a plastic palate!

Today I have noticed my tongue is covered in white gunk, I figured it was from the milkshake so brushed my teeth and tongue, but its still there. Anyone have any idea what may have caused it, and more importantly how I can get rid of it please? It looks revolting and makes my mouth a not-nice place to have to taste!!!

Thanks everyone.

It is my opinion that the dental prosthesis or your slim fast diet has nothing to do with your white tongue.

I think that it is a fungus infection of the tongue and would respond to anti fungal measures.

See your local pharmacist.
You can buy tongue brushes together with gel specifically for that purpose. Having a quick search can only find combination of tooth and tongue brush e.g. http://bit.ly/9lAH1a

Thank you both and sorry for the delay in my reply, I have had a busy week and AB failed to email me about the responses! I am off to Boots now for some anti fungal stuff and a tongue scraper. Your help is much appreciated x
