So I got a letter today saying I am a factor V Leiden Heterozygote, can you give me some information about this please? Also on my bubble contrast echocardiogram "in essence there was a very small right shunt of uncertain clinical significance" What does that mean??? They said on the day that my heart is fine, but this worries me..... Thanks, x

mummy, quite interesting.
V Leiden is an abnormal enzyme type leading to increased bleeding or increase in clotting leading to thrombosis.....your is the latter.

I am no expert on clotting abnormalities, do Google it for more information.

Right to left shunt on echocardiogram would suggest a interventricular defect (hole in the heart) Many people have this and mainly is of no clinical significance, certainly not warranting surgery.............no big deal..........don't worry.

Thanks for the input........very interesting case.
