Hello, my daughter is 22 and the coil fitted about a year or so ago, over the passed few months she has been bleeding very heavy and passing large clots, she bleeds after sex and has pains in her stomach, unfortunatly she started having sex at an early age which she now regrets, my main worry being could it be the coil thats causing the bleeding or could it be something sinister, we have on may occasions asked the gp for a smear which they wont perform until 25, she is now going to have the coil removed and have an inplant placed in her arm, if the bleeding does not subside she will go private to have a smear test done, any help would be appreciated please. Thank you

Whay coil is it?

I had one fitted and had it removed within months because of the heavy bleeding.
I think you've done the right thing and gone to GP and next step is to have coil removed. Hope all goes ok and it hasnt caused any long term problems.

I forgot to mention, my daughter has lost a lot of weight over a short period of time, which also leads me to believe its more sinister that first thought.
i thank the lord im welsh and get offered a smear from the age of 21. I had the coil fitted about 18 months ago and like your daughter i had very heavy bleeding for about 3 weeks of the month, clots and pain and bleeding after intercourse for around the first year. It was awful and yet doctors kept telling me that ive got to allow my body to get used to it. In the end i eventually got to see my gp and he gave me a smear and a scan immediently, which both turned out to be fine thank god, even still it was a really worrying time for me and my partner. The only advice i could give really is to get the coil removed (its just not compatible with some people) and see if the bleeding stops, if that fails then i would demand a smear. good luck i hope she gets sorted

She is going to the doc on Weds to get the coil removed, but we have asked numerous times for a smear but all they keep saying is she cant until she is 25, my daughter started having sex without me knowing when she was just 13, it takes about 6 years for the cancer cells to show so they say, so if she was 13 and had many partners, she is now 22 if there is any chance of her getting cervical cancer then the cells would have already started to show as she is now 22, so what chance has she got if they wont perform a test.
