For about a week the only things I can taste are really spicy things and even at that the flavour is diluted.I had some chicken on Sunday and it was like chewing cardboard but I thought it was just rank chicken.I had some at lunchtime today and again it was akin to chewing gum that had no flavour left
Thats when it dawned that I hadnt really tasted anything for about a week..

I have been on a detox diet where ive mainly been eating veg, stir fry and soup so I was really just bulking up to keep hunger at bay.

Has this happened to anyone else?

A great deal of what we perceive as 'taste' is actually smell. (For example, onions have no flavour - in the strictest sense of the word - at all. What we perceive as their 'flavour' is actually their effect upon our nostrils).

So a cold, a sinus infection or even mild hay fever (perhaps with no other symptoms) is a possible cause of your lost sense of taste.

Looking at your diet, I can't see many sources of iron in there. Aneamia is another possible cause of impaired taste.

Similarly, I can't see any main sources of B12 in your diet. Again, that's a further possible cause. (Treat yourself to some oysters! They're rich in both iron and B12)

Thanks Chris youre a star.

I wondered if it was to do with the type of food I was eating -quite a radical diet.
I have just done the smell test and I can smell OK but I do feel my tonque is a bit like the way it is when youve eaten something too hot-so may be an infection.

I havent had anything to eat today apart from an apple and the attempt at chicken so will see if it calms down.

Again thank you.
