I recently had a contraceptive implant removed as it just wasn't suitable for me. Subsequently I am now back on the mini pill (Cerazette). I will speak to a family planning Nurse about my query but I am curious to know if I can combine this pill with a coil or IUD?

If you had a coil then you would not need to combine them as a Mirena coil contains hormones that slowly get released into your system. Why would you want to combine the pill and the coil anyway? If you want to be careful then the pill and condoms would be a better idea

Thanks Bagpuss. For my husband and I, condoms would not be practical. We planned our first child who I adore but I want to be as protected as possible because I absolutely do not want to have another child within the next few years at least. This is why I was curious about combining the pill with the coil.

You don't need to. The coil should be fine...but....If the implant didn't work for you it might be an idea to get the normal coil and not the marina. They are the same kind of thing hormone wise.

Your periods might get heavier though.

i have the coil fitted and its great.It did take almost a year to settle in but im 'sorted' for 5 years now :-)
